All members are referred to the NFAS Rules of Shooting, particularly the safety rules. In addition, attention is drawn to the following points:
- 1. Although permission has been withdrawn, there are still people using the wood for quad biking, cycling and dog walking. If you see anybody not connected to the club, please refer them to the fact that it is private land and to the no entry signs.
- 2. No archer should draw or loose an arrow unless he or she is sure that there is nobody in the arrow's potential path. We all miss occasionally, so this includes to the sides and especially behind the target. In some cases this will require walking forward towards the target, either because it is obscured by vegetation or because (as in the case of the 'hippo's head' shot in the new wood) you cannot see the path to the target and beyond it from the peg. Not wanting to walk 20 yds is not an excuse for killing somebody.
- 3. If you are going to look behind the target for a missing arrow, you must ensure that you will not be shot whilst you search. The usual way is to leave one or more bows propped against the target. Two things must be borne in mind. First, some of our targets are obscured from the peg and you must be sure that your bow can be seen from the peg. If necessary, leave your bow at the peg instead. Secondly, always remember that there are other targets and pegs out there. Be careful not to wander into the line of any other shots.
